HPV [06 Feb 2008|12:26pm]

 Hi Everybody!

Let me first explain that I am a graduate of Canterbury-not some random internet creep. Anyway. I am studying at Carleton here in Ottawa, and am doing a media case about HPV.
I have a question specifically for high school students, and seeing as though I am no longer "in the loop" when it comes to what exactly they teach you in high school, I felt it was appropriate for me to post here.

 So here's the big question:
Have you been educated about HPV in your sex ed classes? And if so-to what extent? What types of resources have you been given, what type of information about HPV, what types of mediums were used to educate you about the subject? A movie, a teacher explaining it, a hand-out-what?
Also to the gentlemen this question applies to you as all. Were you taught about HPV in your sex ed classes? And if so to what extent?

That's it that's all. Please post your replies in this thread I am VERY interested in knowing your answers, as it will be most helpful for me.
 ALSO!

What's the scoop on CHS Stars Return!? Somebody should post some information about this and continue to promote our fabulous high school!

 Thanks!!

# noun: a comedy characterized by broad satire and improbable situations
# noun: a composition that imitates somebody's style in a humorous way

"in point of fact..."

NB: Virginia Tech was way fucked up, but phoniness is not so great either.

So what's this about the School Board cancelling yellow busses? Without those busses, a LOT of art kids will have no way of getting to school. And after a while, less art kids means no Arts Program. We can't let them do that to Canterbury! But what can we do? Anyone know?

Dear Infuriated,
Parker Malone is the name of the hero of a book called lone Star Wedding. He's a divorce lawyer, and the book is a love story. Sounds like it might fit our mystery friend?

For those who may or may not know, Adyti Maan was a student in Grade 12 last year at Canterbury. She transferred to a school called Norman Johnson.

She recently passed away of natural causes at work, and an autopsy is to determine if her cause of death was a heart attack, as apparently suspected.

She was a bright-spirited and bubbly girl who always walked around with a smile on her face, and showed great love and care to anyone who she talked to. I know that even her own stresses never stopped her from taking moments aside to enjoy the presence of other people, and always committed to putting smiles on their faces. She will be greatly missed.

In loving memory of Adyti, please keep her and her family in your thoughts and prayers.

EO: so Canterbury's doing "the wizard of oz" December 12-16. you want to go?

JF: OMG are you serious?! Heck yeah! That will be REALLY bloody
entertaining!!

EO: k, so i was thinking the saturday night show or the friday night show.

JF: SATURDAY!

EO: okie dokie, saturday December 16th it is

JF: That is SO COOL. This is going to be Christmas tastic!!!!!

EO: we should go as santa's Miss Clauses.

JF: Or we should go in top hats and fake mustaches!

EO: we could really screw up and go as alice-- say we forgot which musical we were seeing!

JF: HA! Awesome.
We could go as anarchists, wear all black and carry a boom box
blasting Rammstein. And we could put up a banner that says "We wish we were in Oz".

AHAHAHAHAHahahahahahah no one would get it.
But it would be awesome.

Let's go with mohawks! ZING! People would be like "whoa. I accept and appreciate your desire to be different!" and we'd be like "I'm so dissapointed that I can not shock you".

Heh.

EO: you forget that we are going to canterbury. the only thing you can do to shock 'em is to improve their funding

JF: HAHAHAHAHAH omg that's the quote of the year.

I lost my iPod somewhere in the school between 1st and 3rd period today (Tuesday). It's a black 30 gig iPod video with the regular white iPod headphones attatched to it.
I most likely lost it in or near the caf, in or near the drama rooms in the basement, in a stairwell, or near the french hall on the 2nd floor.
If found, please bring to the office, or, even better to the hallway near the french hall where I will be regocnizable by my large, red, curly hair, obnoxiously loud voice, and the good chance that I will be wearing a Beatles-related t-shirt. Or you could tape it to my locker (2589) or something. Any way you can get it to me is good.
I'm prepared to offer a small reward for it if I can get my hands on some cash in the not-too-distant future.

Thanks for any help you are able to give! Without my iPod, I might shrivel up and die.

This is something I just finished posting on the message board for The Ottawa Goth Meetup Group, in regards to the crimes commited by Kimveer Gill. I'm posting it here because I feel a strong importance that this is acknowledged and that people come to their senses. I'm not blaming anyone here by posting this, I'm just sharing a point of view, and I urge that anyone who shares this view point strongly supports it, because this happens more often then we'd like to think.

"Goth, whether you call it a culture, style, lifestyle, anything, cannot be associated with violence. Nor can anything else. Violence is nature - it is a nature we are taught to deny, for very good reason. But sometimes people break, or they grow apathetic, and they commit violent acts anyway. Vioelnce is not a culture, it is not a style.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and relate this back to September 11th. When it happened, people blamed Arabic culture and Islam. Acts of racism occured because people beleived that the culture of the Middle East raised violent murderers and terrorists. But any man and any woman is capable of violence - whether they are white, black, brown, goth, ghetto, prep, geek, jock, whatever.

The problem arises when an extremely high profile killing happens. One that goes to greater extremes than others. People take the image of this extremists murder, and associate it with all murders. The thousands killed by a small group of men from the Middle East caused the entire region to catch blame. And now the chaos caused by one Goth will do the same.

When can we stop jumping to conclusions? When can we take a stand against our violent tendencies we all have, instead of against specific groups?"

Thank you for taking the time to read through and reflect upon this. Anyone with a question, please don't post it here. I would rather that you talk to me about it in person - you can find me by locker 1444 at Lunch (unless you already know me, then you can just use your eyes).

Hello everyone~ You can say I'm new to Canterbury, I'll be starting grade 9 this year. Am feeling a tad nervous about this, too. Since there is a community for all Canterburians, I'd just like to say hi. If there are any things you'd like to say or warn me, please do so as I'm fairly dense about Canterbury. :|

Hey everyone,

I hope everyone's having a good summer, I just joined this community for our school so I figured I'd say hello. (: My name's Victoria, I'm in the vocal program and will be in grade 10 once school starts up again.

I have a question that I hope someone will be able to answer...I was thinking about organizing a fundraiser for the Food Bank or something similar this year and I'm not quite sure how to do that. I'm sure I have to speak with someone in Student Council and probably the office first, but I'm not sure who that would be. If anyone knows and could help me I would really appreciate it. (:

I hope everyone has a good last week of summer!

AIDS Benefit CD [25 Jun 2006|04:42pm]

starfish_flower
Fellow Canterburians,

We hope you are enjoying your summer vacation! Sometime during the school year, you likely heard about the AIDS Benefit CD that Social Awareness Committee was working on. In case you didn’t, here’s a little background info. The AIDS Benefit CD is made up of songs and poetry readings all from students within the school. All proceeds from this CD will be donated to the Stephen Lewis Foundation, which is a foundation for AIDS in Africa (www.stephenlewisfoundation.org).

Unfortunately, do to circumstances beyond our control, we were unable to have the CD completed in time to sell it during the school year. However, it is done now. It will be on sale at the St. Laurent CD Warehouse location for the duration of the summer (1717 St. Laurent Blvd., 523-0110). The cost of the CD is $10. You (and your family & friends!) can either pick up a copy from CD Warehouse or you can reserve a copy with us. We will be taking orders and then making arrangements to meet whoever wants to buy one. If you would like to reserve one or more copies of the CD with us, please email us at chssocialawareness@hotmail.com by Friday July 14, 2006 and we will get back to you with further details. Please pass this along to all your friends & family, from CHS or otherwise. Thanks in advance.
